No Special Election for Floyd County EMS Tax Levy
There will not be a special election on an EMS tax levy vote in Floyd County.
The tax levy would generate revenue for emergency medical services providers in the County and, possibly, a County-run ambulance service. The Floyd County EMS Advisory Council has proposed a max levy up to 75-cents per $1,000 of taxable assessed valuation to raise as much as $776,000 a year for 15 years.
During Wednesday’s (04.24) Board of Supervisors meeting, Chair Mark Kuhn noted that could amount to almost $11.6 million in total.
The EMS Council had recommended the special election as the best chance to get the 60% majority YES vote to pass the levy amidst claims that the measure would get lost in the shuffle of the presidential election in November, an argument Kuhn doesn’t buy.
Supervisor Jim Jorgensen, a non-voting member of the EMS Council, said the group put in alot of work to recommend a special election.
By a 2-1 vote, with Supervisors Kuhn and Dennis Keifer in favor and Jorgensen against it, the EMS tax levy will go on the November general election ballot.
