Child, Man Seriously Injured in Separate Accidents in Same Northeast Iowa County

Separate accidents in the same northeast Iowa county resulted in one child and one man being airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says an 11-year-old boy fell out of a moving pickup just after 1 pm on Wednesday, June 12th. According to the investigation, a 1994 Chevrolet S10 operated by 37-year-old Sara Raue of Walker was traveling northbound on Quasqueton Diagonal Boulevard when the passenger side door of the single-cab truck opened, causing the unrestrained minor to fall out of the vehicle while at speed.

The boy suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to UI Health Care Medical Center in Iowa City.  No other injuries were reported.

This incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Buchanan County Rescue 10, the Quasqueton Fire Department, AMR Ambulance Service and LifeGuard Air Ambulance also responded to the scene.

Shortly before 7 am Saturday (June 15), the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a personal injury accident in the 2000 block of 70th Street.  Their investigation determined Daniel Hoveland of Hazleton was attempting to climb onto a Massey Ferguson 255 tractor when he lost his balance, fell backwards, and struck the shifter, causing the tractor to roll forward.

Hoveland fell against a fence, then forward and partially under the tractor as it was moving. He sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to UI Health Care Medical Center in Iowa City.

AMR Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
