Fertilizer Industry Backs Bipartisan Permitting Reform

The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 could bring much-needed relief to Iowa’s agriculture industry. Backed by The Fertilizer Institute, this new federal legislation aims to reform permitting regulations that currently delay new and expanded fertilizer facilities by years—and sometimes decades.
For Iowa farmers, who depend heavily on reliable, cost-effective fertilizer to maintain high crop yields, these regulatory hurdles directly impact the bottom line. Permitting delays and high overhead discourage production investment, restricting local supplies and driving up input costs for corn and soybean growers across the state. By streamlining agency coordination, setting clear timelines, and improving natural gas pipeline access, the bill would allow manufacturers to expand domestic production. TFI is urging the Senate to pass the measure this November to help protect farmer profitability and keep food prices stable.
