BREAKING: Suspect Identified in Monday Night Mason City Shooting (update-Now in Custody)

A suspect has been identified in a shooting Monday night in Mason City and was still at large…until about 2 p.m. Tuesday. 

The Mason City Police Department says they received reports of subjects fighting, with at least one shot being fired, in the 300 block of 3rd Street Northwest at about 8 p.m. Monday night. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a male who had been the victim of gunfire and he was transported to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center by Mason City Fire Medics. 

MCPD Chief Jeff Brinkley says their investigation identified the shooting suspect as 24-year-old Stephen Tidemanson of Mason City, who left the shooting scene with the firearm after disarming the shooting victim. He is now in custody and the firearm has also been recovered.

Tidemanson is wanted on two warrants, charging him with attempted murder, a class B felony; and first-degree theft, a Class C felony.
