Memorial Services Wednesday (11.30) for Mason City Children Killed in House Fire

Two weeks after they were killed in a house fire, four Mason City children will be honored with memorial services Wednesday.

12-year-old John-Mikal McLuer, 10-year-old Odin-Thor McLuer, 6-year-old Drako-Ragnar McLuer, and 3-year-old Phenix-Moon McLuer, all died in the fire at their home on North Washington Avenue in Mason City on November 16th .

The Mason City Fire Department says a faulty power strip on the first floor of the home was the cause of the blaze that also injured another child, 11-year-old Ravan McLuer. Their father, 55-year-old John McLuer, was also injured and was in the burn unit at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City for a week after the fatal fire.

Fullerton Funeral Home of Mason City will host memorial services  for the children at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lincoln School Gymnasium at 1625 South Pennsylvania Avenue.

A GoFundMe account has been established to help the family pay for funeral and other expenses. As of 7 a.m. Monday, over $66,000 had been raised, surpassing the goal of $50,000.
