Winter Driving Skills Tested with Wintry Mix in North Iowa Tuesday

Winter driving skills were put to the test in north Iowa with Tuesday’s mixture of precipitation including rain, freezing rain and snow.

Trooper Tom Williams, with the Cedar Falls office of the Iowa State Patrol, says if your vehicle starts sliding or skidding on the roadway because of slippery conditions, try not to panic.

If you are unfortunate to have your vehicle leave the roadway and become stuck in a storm, Williams advises against venturing out on your own to get help, while being patient for assistance.

Williams adds that you should also take precautions before you hit the road to ensure your safety by having hats, gloves, blankets and a winter survival kit in your vehicle.

You can also check road conditions in advance through www.511ia.org or  www.iowadot.gov/travel.
