FCMC SHIIP/SMP Offer Assistance During Medicare Open Enrollment Period

The open enrollment period for Medicare continues through Wednesday, December 7th.

For those 65-and-older needing assistance, Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) in Charles City has volunteers available through the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP). SHIIP counselors like Joan Lore are here to help Iowans on Medicare with questions and problems related to Medicare and health insurance.

Lore says FCMC also has volunteers for their Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) that works to fight Medicare fraud, errors and abuse. Still, there are things seniors can do to protect themselves.

Lore also encourages checking your Medicare benefits statement for items that appear out of the ordinary.

For assistance through FCMC’s SHIIP and/or SMP programs, call 641-715-1472 or call the hospital directly and they will relay your call.
