DOT Crews Anticipate Long Hours With Thursday Snowfall in North Iowa

National Weather Service La Crosse has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for Mitchell and Floyd counties.

Light snow will continue with additional snow accumulations of up to two inches.

National Weather Service Des Moines has a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 9 pm this evening for Hancock, Cerro Gordo, Emmet, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth and Palo Alto counties.

Snow expected with total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches possible. Winds gusting to as high as 40 mph will cause blowing snow at times, mainly this afternoon and evening.

The NWS advises motorists to plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

Pete Hjelmstad with the Mason City District office of the Iowa DOT says road crews have planned for a long day in north central Iowa.

Hjelmstad encourages checking road conditions before you travel at www.511ia.org or on the 511ia app.
