With frigid temperatures combined with northwest winds gusts projected up to 50 mph later this week, keeping employees warm inside the Floyd County Courthouse is a concern for County officials.
A new boiler furnace, installed as part of the Law Enforcement Center (LEC)/Courthouse Renovation project, has had trouble keeping some areas of the building warm. During the regular Board of Supervisors meeting Monday morning, County Auditor Gloria Carr noted that the third floor is among the coldest locations impacted by the heating issues.
Young Plumbing is the contractor for the heating system and the County is hoping operations can be improved before the cold snap hits north Iowa this week.Â
The National Weather Service in Lacrosse is projecting high temps of just 4-above zero Thursday followed by 2-below Friday and zero on Saturday. Combined with northwest winds forecasted at 15 to 20 mph on average with gusts between 40 and 50 mph, wind chill levels could reach 20 to 30 degrees below zero. Â
