Law Enforcement Keeping Eyes on Impaired Driving New Year’s Weekend

The Iowa State Patrol, along with local law enforcement agencies, will again be keeping eyes focused on spotting impaired drivers during the New Year’s Weekend.

Trooper Tom Williams with the State Patrol’s Mason City District Office advises motorists to be smart whenever you ring in the New Year.

Williams also reminds drivers to keep distractions to a minimum, noting that extra passengers and cell phones, combined with alcohol, multiplies your chances of having an accident.

The Iowa State Patrol’s “Drive Merry, Bright and Sober This Holiday Season” Special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) continues through Sunday. The New Hampton Police Department and Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office are among the local authorities participating in this latest sTEP “Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
