NIACC to Take Construction Bids in February for Charles City Career Academy

While NIACC is going to build a new Career Academy in Charles City, high schoolers from outside Charles City will also benefit.

NIACC President Steve Schultz says the Career Academy partnership also includes the Nashua-Plainfield, Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock, Riceville, North Butler, Clarksville and Osage school districts.

Schultz says he recently met with the superintendents of the schools to establish the timeline for opening the academy.

After first planning to build the career academy on the Floyd County Fairgrounds, rising construction costs forced NIACC to consider other options. Ultimately, they decided to add on to the south side of their existing Charles City NIACC Center near Hy-Vee.

Schultz says courses initially will be offered in the areas of health, information technology, constructions and advanced manufacturing.

He says they will take construction bids in February with the hopes of breaking ground as soon as weather allows in the spring.
