Floyd County CERT Looking to Add to Their Roster of Helpers

FThe Floyd County Community Emergency Response Team(CERT) is looking to add to its roster of people available to help respond to a disaster or the imminent threat of disaster.

Gloria Troge is the secretary and a founding member of CERT, which operates under the authority of Floyd County Emergency Management.

She says CERT members can help in situations similar to her experiences with the Floyd County Fairgrounds and Rudd derecho tornadoes.

Troge says they’re looking ultimately for people passionate about helping in disaster events, although you’re expected to take care of yourself first.

Even if you don’t help in the field, Troge says you can also take advantage of CERT training for personal use if you’re just interested in providing better safety for your family during or in advance of a disaster.

The next CERT training session is scheduled for February 18th and 19th in the EOC Room of the Floyd County Law Enforcement Center. You must fill out an application form and pass a background check to be accepted .
