
Charles City’s Lilly Luft is a state champion once again.
Luft, the Comets senior who will wrestle at the University of Iowa next fall, completed an undefeated season at 40-0 with a 9-1 victory over Chloe Sanders of Vinton-Shellsburg in the championship match Friday night at the Iowa Girls State Wrestling Tournament. The top seed in the 130-pound division, Luft earned her third state title.
In the 100-pound title match, Osage sophomore Gable Hemann, the number two seed, fell 5-2 to Waukee freshman Katie Biscoglia of Waukee, the top seed. Hemann finished the season 44-3.
Hemann’s teammate, senior Jaylin Goodale, lost her third-place match to Ady Lundquist of Corning 10-7.
At 105-pounds, Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Hillary Trainor fell to Taylor Streif of Bettendorf 6-0.
In the 145-pound third-place match, New Hampton-Turkey Valley’s Ali Russler won with a fall in 1:06 over Alex Harswick of Gilbert. In the 145 title match, Waverly-Shell Rock’s Haidyn Snyder lost to Emma Peach of Iowa Valley.
Snyder’s teammate, Kiara Djoumessi, won the state title at 140 pounds, beating top-seeded Mahri Manz of Council Bluffs with a pin in 1:07.
