Deadline Friday to Apply for Chickasaw County Chief Deputy Post

Candidates interested in the Chief Deputy post in the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office have until 1 pm Friday (02.17) to submit their application.

Ryan Shawver was Chief Deputy under former Sheriff Marty Hemann, who retired January 19th. On January 23rd, Shawver was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to take over and serve out the remainder of Hemann’s term as Sheriff, which runs through the end of 2024. Shawver will have to run for election to keep the job into 2025.

Meanwhile, Shawver is waiting fill his prior position as Chief Deputy. He would like to hire current New Hampton Police Chief Zach Nosbisch, but the Board of Supervisors wanted to make sure proper procedure was followed by advertising the open position for at least 10 days on the County website.

That job was officially posted Tuesday, February 7th, giving those interested until 1 pm February 17th to apply for the position.

With the delay in potentially hiring Nosbisch, that led Nosbisch to postpone submitting his resignation to the City of New Hampton. Still, in anticipation of his departure, the City is taking applications for Police Chief through February 24th.

Qualified candidates for the Sheriff’s Chief Deputy position should submit a letter of interest by email to Sheriff Shawver at r.shawver@chickasawcounty.iowa.gov before 1:00 p.m. on February 17, 2023, and contact Sheriff Shawver directly at (641) 394-3121 for more information. Chickasaw County is an equal opportunity employer.
