New Hampton Police Chief Nosbisch Appointed Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy

As expected, the next Chief Deputy for the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office will come from the top of the New Hampton Police Department.

Ryan Shawver was Chief Deputy under former Sheriff Marty Hemann, who retired January 19th. On January 23rd, Shawver was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to take over and serve out the remainder of Hemann’s term as Sheriff, which runs through the end of 2024. Shawver will have to run for election to keep the job into 2025.

Shortly after his appointment as Sheriff, Shawver told the Board he wanted to hire current New Hampton Police Chief Zach Nosbisch as Chief Deputy. However, Supervisors wanted to make sure proper procedure was followed by advertising the position for at least 10 days, which ended Friday, February 17th.

Shawver says no other applications were received by the deadline and Nosbisch was officially appointed Chief Deputy by a 5-0 vote by Supervisors during their meeting Tuesday morning. Nosbisch is scheduled to start with the Sheriff’s Office on March 6th.

Meanwhile, the City of New Hampton continues taking applications for Nosbisch’s replacement through this Friday, February 24th. Nosbisch has been New Hampton Police Chief for a little over four years.
