Charles City Second Graders Move to Lincoln Elementary Official

A plan announced in January to have Charles City School District second graders attend classes at Lincoln Elementary School was made official Monday (02.27) night.

The district’s second graders currently go to Washington Elementary, but future classes will go to Lincoln Elementary starting with the 2023-24 school year this August.

That’s Superintendent Dr. Anne Lundquist, who told the Charles City School Board Monday night that laying the groundwork continues in advance of the move.

The Board unanimously approved the move, as well as almost $34,000 to add 100 student lockers at Lincoln to be paid out of current school year PPEL funds. The district will also add a second lift chair to go up to the second floor of the building for just over $17,000, to be paid out PPEL funds for the 2023-24 school year.

Currently, about 66% of Charles City School District elementary students attend classes at Washington Elementary compared to just 34% at Lincoln.
