Floyd County to Oppose Summit’s Request to Keep Pipeline Route Confidential
Floyd County will join the challenge of a request to the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) by Summit Carbon Solutions to keep the route of its proposed carbon capture pipeline under wraps.
That’s Floyd County Board Supervisors Chair Mark Kuhn, who gave an update on carbon pipeline developments during the Board’s regular meeting Monday morning. Kuhn said the County’s legal counsel for IUB proceedings, Timothy Whipple with Ahlers and Cooney, has asked the County and others he represents, including Bremer and Butler counties, if they’d like to challenge Summit’s latest move.
Kuhn says he has directed Whipple to proceed with the challenge.
Last week, Supervisors also gave Whipple the go-ahead to ask the IUB whether they will accept video testimony when the IUB holds a technical meeting on March 15th, which will lay out the schedule for testimonial hearings leading up to a possible permit hearing for Summit in October.Â
In addition to Summit building its Midwest Carbon Express pipeline in Floyd County, Navigator CO2 Ventures also wants to build a branch of its Heartland Navigator carbon pipeline in the county originating from the Valero Renewables ethanol plant west of Charles City.
