Applications for Floyd County Attorney Post Due Friday (03.17)

Applications are due Friday (03.17) for anyone interested in being appointed Floyd County Attorney.

In February, then-County Attorney Rachel Ginbey submitted her resignation to become the County Attorney in Hancock County. Her last day as Floyd County Attorney was March 12th.

The Floyd County Board of Supervisors have opted to fill the vacancy by appointment on March 27th. Those interested in the post have until Friday (March 17) to submit their application to the County Auditor’s office.

However, any eligible elector in the County could also file a petition to force a special election for the position. That petition would need a minimum of 809 signatures and must be filed within 14 days of the Supervisors’ intent-to-fill vacancy is published or within 14 days of the actual appointment.

Ginbey’s resignation comes after she was re-elected to another four-year term this past November. Whoever is appointed would serve out the remainder of her term, which ends December 31, 2026.

Assistant County Attorney Randy Tilton is serving as acting County Attorney until an appointment is made.
