New Hampton Superintendent Completes First School Bus Route

On the morning of Monday, April 17, New Hampton Schools Superintendent Jay Jurrens was pressed into service to drive his first school bus route.

Jurrens adds that he got his bus driver’s license earlier this year to be available to step in, although he has previously driven school buses on activity trips. However, he says those are basic to and back trips, while driving a bus route before or after school brings numerous turns and multiple stops and starts.

Which is why the New Hampton School Board has approved the purchase of a computer routing program to assist substitute drivers.

Jurrens says the new computer routing tablets will be in the district’s buses by the start of the new school year in August, with August 23rd now set for the first day of school after the district’s calendar for 2023-2024 school year was recently approved by the School Board.
