Millrace Parking Project Slated to Start this Summer

For the second summer in a row, the City of Charles will be taking a one-block street section out of commission to regular thru-traffic.

Last summer, the City vacated the one-block of North Main Street in front of Pure Prairie Poultry. The move was deemed vital to the long term success of the chicken processing plant, allowing for future expansion and for transport trucks to get in and out without blocking traffic.

This summer, City Administrator Steve Diers says the Millrace Parking project, which will close Riverside Drive to regular through traffic from South Main around to Clark Street, will finally become a reality.

Diers says the project will also mean a slightly new look for the Millrace Park next to the Cedar River and more public parking.

Diers says the City is working on final plans in hopes of bid letting yet this spring and construction to begin this summer.
