Law Enforcement on High Alert for Holiday Weekend Traffic Violations

With the Memorial Day Weekend upon us, that means law enforcement will step up efforts to crack down on traffic violators.

That’s Trooper Tom Williams with the Mason City District office of the Iowa State Patrol, who says all motorists can help make the roads safer.

According to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, in 2022, 55% of traffic fatalities in Iowa were unbelted or unknown. So far, in 2023 that number is about 60%. It is perceived everyone wears a seat belt, yet over half of our fatalities are unrestrained.

The GTSB  works with city, county, state, and local organizations such as the Floyd and Howard County Sheriff’s Offices to develop and implement strategies to reduce deaths and injuries on Iowa’s roadways using federally funded grants.
