A Cresco man has died after drowning about three miles northwest of New Hampton.
The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office says they received a 911 call that someone was drowning at the Airport Lake Park just after 1:30 pm Monday (05.29) afternoon. Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene immediately and initiated a water rescue.
Just before 6 pm Monday evening, divers from Iowa Underwater Search and Rescue of Mason City recovered the body of 52-year-old Alvaro Valdivia Barranco. Â
The Chickasaw County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be consistent with a fresh water drowning. A full autopsy is to be conducted by the State of Iowa Medical Examiner, but there is no foul play suspected and the death is ruled as accidental at this time.
The investigation was also assisted by the Iowa DNR, Chickasaw County EMA, Chickasaw County EMS, Chickasaw County Rescue Squad, New Hampton and Ionia Fire Departments, Chickasaw County Conservation, New Hampton Police and Hugeback/Johnson Funeral Home.
