Former North Iowa Nursing Home Administrator Sentenced for Embezzling

The former administrator of a north Iowa nursing home has been sentenced for embezzling thousands of dollars.

39-year-old Liza Klimesh of Cresco was accused of stealing money while employed at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home nursing home between May and July of 2022.  Court documents state she spent over $13,000 on her own utility bills, vehicle insurance, attorney fees, jewelry, clothing, and pet supplies by using the nursing home’s checking account and debit/credit cards.

Klimesh was originally charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony and unauthorized use of a credit card over $1,500 but less than $10,000, a Class D felony.

As part of a plea deal, she pleaded guilty to second-degree theft, a Class D felony.  She’s also been placed on one year of supervised probation and will pay a civil penalty of over $1,000.

Klimesh also received a deferred judgment, meaning the conviction will be wiped from her record if she successfully completes her sentence.
