A Butler County man has died after hitting a deer with his motorcycle.
The Iowa State Patrol says the collision occurred shortly before 2:30 pm Friday afternoon on Highway 3 just east of Allison. 69-year-old Duane Gibson of Shell Rock was driving his Harley Davidson westbound when he hit the deer, causing the bike to crash, pinning Gibson underneath the motorcycle. Authorities say he was not wearing a helmet.
Gibson was airlifted to by UIHC Air Care out of Waterloo to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Allison Fire and EMS, and Waverly Health Center EMS also assisted at the scene.
