Iowa Summer Games returns to Charles City Saturday (06.17)

Whitewater competitions return to the Cedar River in Charles City this Saturday, June 17th, as part of the Iowa Summer Games.

Amateur Iowa athletes of all ages and skill sets can compete in the Olympic-style events at Riverfront Park. Registration begins at 8 am with competition starting at 9 am and running throughout the day, with an awards ceremony around 4 pm. 

The public is welcome to watch and lawn chairs or blankets are recommended.

While put on by the Iowa Summer Games, event support and volunteers are provided through the Charles City Park-Rec Department and Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce.

Anyone is interested in volunteering can come to the bandshell behind the Charles City Public Library Saturday before 9 am or 1 pm to sign up. You’re advised to bring a lawn chair and sunscreen.

Charles City has played host to the whitewater contests for the Iowa Summer Games since the course opened in 2011,
