Lifeguards to be Recognized for Saving Five-Year-Old at Charles City Swimming Pool

A potentially deadly situation was averted a Thursday, June 15th at Lions Field Swimming Pool in Charles City.

Early that afternoon, a five-year-old girl was drowning when lifeguard staff sprang into action to successfully resuscitate the girl.

That’s Mayor Dean Andrews, who announced during Wednesday night’s City Council meeting, that a plaque will be coming to the pool to honor the life-saving group effort.

Park-Rec Director Tyler Mitchell says lifeguards began tending to the girl at about 1:20 pm that afternoon with 10 chest compressions performed before she was able to breath and woke up. Emergency personnel, including AMR Ambulance, were on the scene until about 2 pm.

The little girl is doing good.
