Groundbreaking Sunday to Replace Rudd Library Destroyed by 2021 Tornado
A year-and-a-half after the Rudd Public Library was destroyed by a tornado, officials will break ground for a new library this weekend.
The library was struck by an EF1 tornado on December 15, 2021, meaning wind speeds reached between 86 and 110 mph. It was one of 61 twisters spawned by a derecho that swept across Iowa, a record for the number of tornadoes in one day for the state.
Groundbreaking for the new library building on the corner of 6th and Floyd streetd in Rudd is scheduled for 11 am this Sunday (06.25) morning followed by a free will donation lunch at the Rudd Fire Station, with serving until 1 pm. The luncheon is hosted by the Lions Club.
Rebuild efforts for the library included a GoFundMe account that raised almost $12,000. The library has called Rudd City Hall home until the new library can be built.
