Iowa Law Enforcement Out in Force July 4th Weekend

Law enforcement agencies across Iowa will be on high alert July 4th weekend during their latest Special Traffic Enforcement Project (sTEP).

That’s Trooper Tom Williams with the Iowa State Patrol’s Mason City District Office, who says efforts to get drunk and impaired drivers off the road will run July1 through July 5th.

Several local north Iowa law enforcement agencies are also participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) high-visibility enforcement campaign, including Charles City, Osage, and Mason City police departments, plus Floyd, Chickasaw, and Howard County sheriff’s offices.

According to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB), last year in Iowa, 57% of the July 4th holiday weekend traffic fatalities were alcohol related.
