BREAKING: Mason City Police Confirm Discovery of Human RemainsĀ 

Mason City Police have confirmed that human remains were discovered Thursday afternoon.

MCPD officers were dispatched just after 2 pm Thursday for a report of human remains found in the 200 block of 7th Street Northeast. Chief Jeff Brinkley says, ā€œDue to decomposition, we have not been able to make identification of the remains. We do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the community. We are working with the State Medical Examinerā€™s Officer to obtain additional information that could assist with identification.ā€

MCPD is releasing some basic information that may be useful to help identify the remains, described as a male, race unknown, approximately 20-to-40 years of age, 5ā€™6ā€ to 5’10ā€ in height and weighing about 170 pounds. The male is dressed in green jogger sweatpants, a black tank top, and black and red Nike brand tennis shoes. In addition, there was an Ace-wrap bandage on the maleā€™s left ankle.Ā
