Charles City Community Gardens Vandalized

The Community Gardens along Clark Street in Charles City were vandalized over the weekend.
Site coordinator Susan Jacob alerted gardeners that the incidents occurred sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.Â
She says some potatoes and onions in one of her plots were dug up and about three-quarters of brussels sprout plants were pulled up. Several peppers were also picked in a neighboring plot.Â
She says a variety of other vegetables in the garden plots were also pulled or picked, with everything left scattered on the ground.
Charles City Police were called to the scene, where a seat at a nearby porta-potty had also been ripped off. Signs at the garden were also taken.
Many of the vegetables grown at the Community Gardens are donated to the Messiah Food Pantry and/or Floyd County ISU Extension for distribution to those in need.
