Chickasaw County EMS Surpasses Six-Month Anniversary

The Chickasaw County EMS department has now been operating ambulance service in the County for just over six months.
That’s EMS Director Joel Knutson, who says the staff has taken great pride bringing things together and hitting the streets, and not just on ambulance calls.
The County has been running two ambulances since January 1st, but recently took possession of its third rig, which Knutson notes will expand their capabilities to serve the public.
Knutson says they’re still working to fully stock the third ambulance with supplies, but they can roll out with the rig if and when it’s needed.
At the end of the month, the County is also expected to close on the purchase of property at 204 East Prospect Street in New Hampton to provide an official home for the EMS department and its New Hampton-based ambulances.Â
The County currently rents garage space from the City of New Hampton on South Locust Avenue next to the police station to house its two ambulances. Because the purchase of the new location came quicker than expected, the County recently got approval from the New Hampton City Council to allow them out of their lease without penalty despite the less than required 60-days notice.
