Charles City City Council to Move Towards Golf Cart Approval

For over a year, UTVs have been allowed to travel the streets of Charles City.

On the agenda for Monday (07.17) night’s 6 pm meeting of the Charles City City Council is the first reading of an ordinance to allow citizens similar privileges for golf carts.

That’s Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson, who notes that, unfortunately, child restraints are not required for golf carts or UTVs.

Anderson adds that golf carts will be required to have adequate brakes, a bicycle safety flag and a slow moving vehicle sign.

The New Hampton City Council meets in regular session Monday night at 7 pm. A “light” agenda includes discussion of the traffic signal lights at the corner of Linn Avenue and Prospect streets.  The lights stopped working last Thursday and, until they are fixed, the lights will be flashing yellow for north-south traffic on Linn and flashing red for east-west traffic on Prospect.

The New Hampton School Board meets Monday night at 6 pm for a work session followed at 6:30 pm by their regular meeting with an agenda that includes possible approval of a facility use contract with Little Sprouts Daycare. The School District and Little Sprouts are partnering to offer a before and after school program out of the elementary building, slated to start next month.
