Floyd County Sheriff’s Sponsors Obstacle Course Fundraiser for K9 Program

It’s been just over nine months since the K9 program returned to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, after an absence of almost 25 years.

Deputy Luke Chatfield is handler and partner to Sirius, a dual purpose K9 who can help with suspect apprehension as well as drug detection, including helping neighboring law enforcement agencies.

Chatfield adds that Sirius is always eager to work, noting that when the K9 was out of action for about two weeks due to a muscle pull in one of hind legs, he was not happy being on the sidelines.

For kids who don’t like being on the sidelines, Chatfield invites them to participate in the Tornado Alley Obstacle Run this Monday (07.17) at the Floyd County Fairgrounds.

Chatfield says Sirius plush toys will also be available for sale Monday evening.

Like many sheriff’s departments, the Floyd County K9 program is funded through donations and fundraising.
