BREAKING: Minnesota Fugitive Apprehended in North Iowa

A fugitive from Minnesota has been apprehended in north Iowa.

A press release from the Iowa State Patrol says, “On August 2, 2023 the Iowa State Patrol was asked to assist the Nora Springs Police Department and Floyd County Sheriff’s Office in serving a felony arrest warrant in Nora Springs.  The subject was also a fugitive out of Minnesota with active warrants.”

The statement also notes, “As Officers approached the residence at 12:46 pm the subject was observed in the house. Entry was made into the house and more interior doors/windows were found to be barricaded shut. The State Patrol Tactical Team and Negotiators were called to the scene. Negotiations were attempted and the subject, Nathaniel Jon Fritz, was taken into custody by the Tactical Team at 4:14 pm.”

Mr Fritz was turned over to Nora Springs Police and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Dept. There were no injuries during the incident. 

The Globe Gazette reports that a witness who said they were familiar with the matter described the standoff as a “hostage situation” and said Fritz was holding a pregnant woman inside the house. However, that account has not been officially verified.  

Fritz was wanted on a domestic assault charge in Crow Wing County, Minnesota and had been on the run since May. Minnesota court records also show Fritz has a long criminal history dating back to at least 2004. He has various convictions including theft, forgery, taking possession of stolen property, assault, disorderly conduct, making terroristic threats, harassment/stalking, drug possession, and assaulting correctional staff.
