$28.5 Million Charles City School High School Bond Referendum Will Go Before Voters

A $28.5 million bond referendum to revitalize Charles City High School will go before school district voters this fall.

During their regular meeting Monday (08.14) night, Superintendent Anne Lundquist told the Charles City School Board the district has surpassed the 445 minimum petition signatures needed to advance the measure to the ballot on November 7th.

The Board voted unanimously to proceed in putting the bond referendum up for vote, which will require a 60% majority YES vote to pass.

If approved, about a third of the $28.5 million would go towards a new 800-seat performing arts auditorium, with other funds going to upgrades and facility improvements to a school building that hasn’t had any major work done to it since it was built 63 years ago.

Lundquist adds that information and details for the bond referendum are available at www.charlescitybond.org. There’s also a link on the school district website www.charlescityschools.org.
