Charles City Library to Reopen Monday with Lobby Flooring Resolved Sooner Than Expected

The second lobby flooring project this year causing the closure of the Charles City Public Library will be much shorter than the first.

A new flooring installation project that began February 7th was to be completed in less than three weeks, but eventually extended into March. The results were deemed unsatisfactory to the point that City Administrator Steve Diers says the original contractor wasn’t allowed to finish the project since they were unable to fix their work.

On Thursday, August 10th, the library shutdown again for the flooring to be redone, with the closure expected to last about four weeks. However, Diers says the new contractors are progressing well ahead of schedule.

Sure enough, just a week after the flooring renovation began, Library Director Annette Dean announced Thursday (08.17) that the library will reopen to the public this Monday (08.21) morning at 10 am. Until then, patrons can still checkout materials by reserving them ahead of time for curbside pickup.
