Speed Cameras Coming to Charles City

Speed enforcement cameras are coming to Charles City.
During their regular meeting Tuesday (09.05), the City Council approved a contract with Altumint to install speed monitoring devices and to provide support services for an initial three-year agreement.
Police Chief Hugh Anderson says the cameras are still months away from being active.
Anderson says there will likely be four cameras installed across the City.
A camera will also be coming to South Grand Avenue, where the speed limits range from 35 to 45 to 55 mph.
Anderson adds that the first ticket one gets from the speed camera will likely be a warning to make drivers aware of the cameras, although signs will be posted to alert motorists of camera locations.
The City Council must also pass an official ordinance for the speed traffic enforcement cameras prior to them being put into use.
