The New Hampton Police Department (NHPD) is entering its fourth month of being down one peace officer.
Mayor Bobby Schwickerath says recruitment efforts continue to fill the position that opened up following an officer resignation in May.
Until another officer is hired, Schwickerath says the public can help keep the NHPD abreast of any suspicious activity by not keeping that information to yourself.
Schwickerath says the issues came to light during last week’s City Council meeting, with the police department unaware because incidents weren’t being reported.
