Charles City, Floyd County Topics at IUB/Summit Pipeline Hearings

The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) continues hearing testimony this week in Forth Dodge as Summit Carbon Solutions seeks a permit to build about 680 miles of underground carbon capture pipeline in the state.

Summit wants to build sections of its pipeline in Floyd County, including the Avenue of the Saints Development Park in Charles City. During their regular Board meeting Monday (09.11), Supervisors Chair Mark Kuhn noted that they’ve been discussed on several occasions.

Kuhn says he gets frequent updates from county inspectors, the general public, and attorney Tim Whipple with Ahlers and Cooney, PC, who represents Floyd and other counties at the hearings.

Supervisors approved about $5,500 of total invoices for Whipple’s legal services through August 15th, which was before the IUB/Summit hearings began.

Gordie Boge with the Coalition for Better County Government told the Board Whipple’s representation has been a good investment.

The IUB will continue proceedings on Summit’s permit application through this Thursday (09.14) and hopes to wrap up testimony by the end of the month.
