Six Candidates Seek Three City Council Seats in Charles City

There’s the possibility of three new City Council members next year in Charles City.

The terms of incumbents Keith Starr, Phoebe Pittman and Phillip Knighten are slated to expire December 31st, but all three have filed to seek re-election to additional four-year terms. Also filing candidacies for the November 7th City Council elections are Patsy Beaver, Joanne Robinson and Joshua Neupert.

The Charles City School Board will get at least one new representative come the first of the year. Current Board member Janiece Bergland has opted not to seek re-election, with her term expiring at the end of this year. Current Board President Pat Rottinghaus has filed to run again for another four-year term, but two challengers have also tossed their hats in the ring, with Dara Jaeger and Bruce Koebrick filing nomination papers.

Because both City Council and School Board seats are at-large positions, the top three vote getters will be elected to the City Council and the top two vote recipients will be elected to the School Board.
