Candidates for Charles City City Council Meet in Forum

The six candidates vying for three seats on the Charles City City Council addressed various issues during a public forum.

The Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce and American Association of University Women (AAUW) hosted the candidates during a public forum Thursday (10.12) night at the Charles City Senior Center. Incumbents Keith Starr, Phoebe Pittman, and Phillip Knighten are seeking re-election, with Patsy Beaver, Joanne Robinson and Joshua Neupert also on the ballot.

Neupert said being a good councilman requires listening to constituents.

Pittman said being on City Council means being part of a collaborative effort.

Robinson said joining the City Council will require a balancing act.

Starr said a councilman must be able to make adjustments.

Beaver said being on the City Council takes commitment.

Knighten said a councilman has tough decisions to make.

Since City Council positions are all elected at-large in Charles City, the top three vote-getters will be elected to office November 7th.
