Robert Redmond, 66, of Charles City, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Reverend Mark Williams from APC Of Cedar Valley officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:30 to 6:00p.m. on Thursday, October 26 at Hauser Weishaar funeral home.
Robert Allen Redmond, the son of Robert E. and Emily (Smidt) Redmond, was born on March 24, 1957, in Belmond. He graduated from Central Lee High School in Argyle and then attended the University of Northern Iowa to receive his bachelor’s degree in teaching. Robert worked for Comprehensive Systems and then taught for several years at schools in Evansdale and Colorado. He returned to Charles City when he retired in 2005. Robert was very passionate about teaching and was the first to receive the Gold Star Teacher’s Award.
Robert loved to watch sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football teams. While in college, Robert enjoyed dancing with his friend Susie and together won a few dancing competitions. He was an avid collector of antiques and pottery. He enjoyed going to rummage sales and thrift stores and even started a Facebook group called Gold Star Thrifters to share his passion online. Robert had a very close relationship with God, loved animals (particularly elephants), watching I Love Lucy, and spending time in the Colorado mountains. Above everything in his life, Robert always loved his family and will be remembered as a very giving and generous man.
Living family members include his brother, Jerry (Roxanne) Redmond of Floyd, their children: Rachael (Matt) Mannen and son Carson, Raquel Redmond, Josh (Brittany) Redmond and their children Willa, Jude, Theo, and Ivy; sister, Penny (Daryl) Witte of Manly, their children, Kole and Klay Witte; brother, Steve (Sue) Redmond of Charles City, their children: Angel (Leif) Johnston, Amy (Joey) Chase and their children Bailey, Taylor and Peyton, Amber Redmond and son Rowan; sister, Pam Redmond of Leland, her daughter, Macie Redmond; brother, Lance Redmond of Charles City; and uncle, Allen Smidt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Emily Redmond.
