Charles City Mill Race Parking Lot Opens

The “Mill Race Parking Lot” in downtown Charles City is now open. 

The project closes off regular through-traffic from the corner of Main Street and Riverside Drive to the corner of Jackson and Clark streets. 

That’s Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson, who says motorists can enter the new parking lot from the southeast and from the north.

Anderson adds that stop signs have been placed at the parking lot exits to Clark Street. The City also installed a stop sign for southbound traffic on Jackson Street as it intersects with Clark Street.

The change is expected to make the area safer for pedestrians while creating about 50 additional parking spaces.
