Former Floyd County Museum Director Passes
A former director of the Floyd County Museum has passed away.
Mary Ann Townsend of Charles City guided the museum from 2001 until her retirement in 2020, although a museum Facebook post notes that Townsend dedicated over 30 years of her life to volunteering, serving, directing, and caring for the Floyd County Museum.Â
The post adds that “she was passionate about local history and the Hart-Parr Oliver tractor legacy. The museum would not be where it is today without her tireless efforts over the years. She will be greatly missed by the Floyd County community.â€
Due to Townsend’s passing, the museum has canceled this Saturday’s “Chautauqua Talks†program so museum supporters can attend her memorial service which will be held at 11 am this Saturday (11.18) at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City. Family and friends may gather from 9:30 am until the start of the service.
Townsend, who received an America’s Hometown Hero Award in 2021, passed away Saturday, November 11th, at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City. She was 78.
