Charles City Man Sentenced in Assault, Vandalism Case

A Charles City man has been sentenced after he was accused of attacking a female and her car.

Charles City Police arrested 37-year-old Dean Naeve in September for first-degree burglary, domestic abuse assault-strangulation, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

According to the criminal complaints, Naeve grabbed, hit, and choked the woman before she got into her vehicle and locked the doors. He then broke the driver’s side window and the victim suffered several small cuts to her arms and hands.

Tuesday (11.28), Naeve pleaded guilty in Floyd County District Court to domestic abuse assault-strangulation and fourth-degree criminal mischief, with the first-degree burglary charge dismissed as part of a plea deal.

Naeve has been ordered to spend one year on supervised probation and pay a $430 fine. He must also complete the Iowa Domestic Abuse Program and if his probation is revoked, he’ll have to spend 45 days in jail.
