Iowa’s 1st Gun Deer Hunting Season Opens Saturday (12.02)

Iowa’s first (shot)gun deer hunting season of the year opens Saturday and continues through Wednesday, December 6th.

Iowa DNR Conservation Officer for Floyd and Mitchell counties, Jacob Fulk, reminds hunters to get out your blaze orange apparel.

You must have your hunting license and your deer tags with you, which must be in your name.

There is an app for you to download your hunting license to your phone.

Before heading out in the field, Fulk says to have a plan for your hunt so everyone in your hunting party knows where others are located, which could help prevent one of the most common hunting accidents —- shooting at a running deer.

Iowa’s second shotgun deer season will run from December 9th to December 17th.
