Final Council Meeting Monday Night for New Hampton Mayor Schwickerath

Monday (12.18) night’s New Hampton City Council meeting will be the final session presided over by Mayor Bobby Schwickerath.

After being elected New Hampton’s Mayor in 2019, Schwickerath took office in January of 2020. However, his lone four-year term will come to end on December 31, 2023, after his bid for re-election fell short in November, when he finished second to former New Hampton Fire Chief Steve Geerts.

In addition to Schwickerath, Councilman Cory McDonald will also participate in his final Council meeting Monday night, after he opted NOT to seek another four-year term. McDonald, also the New Hampton High School baseball coach, will be replaced by Deb Larson starting January 1st, after she won the Ward 1 seat by write-in vote last month.

3rd Ward councilman Jason Speltz, who did not file official nomination papers to run for office, also kept his seat after winning through write-in votes.

On the New Hampton City Council agenda Monday night at 7 pm is possible approval of the facility plan for the wastewater treatment plant and possible purchase of a tanker truck for the fire department.
