State Rep. Thomson Sees Eminent Domain vs. Carbon Pipelines Continuing Issue for 2024 Legislature
While the fate of Summit Carbon Solutions carbon pipeline permit application still awaits a decision by the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB), the use of eminent domain to build the pipeline could look different before a decision is handed down.
House District 58 (including Chickasaw& most of Floyd counties) State Representative Charley Thomson ( R ) of Charles City says the debate over eminent domain is likely to pick up where the legislature left off last year when the 2024 session begins next week.
Thomson adds that his focus with any eminent domain legislation is making sure landowners rights are protected.
Thomson adds that this legislative session could address fine-tuning the parameters of the Education Savings Accounts (ESA) approved last year and Governor Kim Reynolds’ goal of eliminating the state income tax by the end of 2026, although he wonders if it’s “mechanically feasible.â€
