Juanita Quinby, 91, Floyd

Juanita Quinby, 91, of Floyd, passed away Sunday, January 14th, 2024, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A memorial service for Juanita will be held Saturday, January 20th, 2024, at 11:00am at Floyd Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Croix Hospice.

Juanita Fae (Ferch) Quinby, the daughter of Otto Ferch and Agnes (Roosa) Shunkwiler, was born on September 19, 1932, in Charles City. She attended school in Floyd, Charles City, and Mason City. Juanita was united in marriage to Keith Allen Quinby on August 30, 1948, in Floyd. The couple was married for 45 years until his passing on March 30, 1994.

Juanita worked as a chiropractic assistant for Dr. French for 15 years, city clerk in Floyd for 6 ½ years and sold Avon. She also worked for the Charles City and Rockwell Locker, aftercare counselor at Hauser Funeral Home and volunteered for hospice. Juanita was a member of Floyd Grace United Methodist Church and was involved with various church activities.

Living family members include her three sons: Terry (Louise), Don (Carrie), and Jeff; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and brother, Wayne Shunkwiler.

Juanita was preceded in death by her father, Otto Ferch; mother, Agnes Shunkwiler; husband, Keith Quinby; and two grandsons.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
