Firefighters Battle Fire, Weather Sunday in Charles City

There were no injuries reported from a weekend fire in Charles City.

Charles City Fire Rescue says they were dispatched about 3:30 pm Sunday (01.14) afternoon to a residence on the 400 block of Cedar Street for smoke filling the home. Upon arrival a team made entry through the front door to find smoke and flames coming from the floor.

The team identified that the flames were coming from the basement and quickly made entry to the basement and quickly extinguished the flames. A second team then entered the main door of the residence to check for any additional fires.

The fire was concentrated around the in-floor heater and caused damage to the floor on the main level, which can be repaired.

Firefighters battled the blaze in sub-zero temperatures, which Charles City’s Andy Hingten says can present footing challenges.

Hintgen adds that putting hoses away in arctic conditions isn’t easy either.

The Floyd and Colwell fire departments also responded to Sunday’s fire in Charles City.
